My Life in Mixed Tapes
Just a head’s up that my latest post is UP on the Huffington Post–and it’s on subject that is so dear to my heart: Mixed Tapes. Speaking of which, I had the absolute pleasure of making one recently–for the chef and Top Chef judge, Hugh Acheson. Graham and I have been a fan of his since we saw him on Top Chef Masters. I honestly felt like every time I saw him, he looked like some guy I had known in my teenage years. One night after watching the current season of Top Chef I wrote a Tweet about how he seemed like a guy that I had once traded mixed tapes with. He immediately responded to me and proposed a tape trade. Was I going to turn that down? OF COURSE NOT. So I made him one and it was very odd making a tape for someone you don’t KNOW AT ALL. Kind of like a musical blind date. This added another layer to the mystery of mixed tapes–how very personal they actually are.
I am still waiting for Hugh’s tape. A little tip about well-known people: they are BUSY AS HELL and do not do things quickly. I hope I do get a tape from Hugh, though. It’s been a long long long time since I have received one. It seems about time.

*laughs* I LOVE making mix tapes but in recent years I find the people I give them to are unable to find anything to play them on.
